"Cabin in the Wood"- Review

I have just watched a movie, titled "Cabin in the Wood" at a mall near my place. At first it was only me waiting at the entrance to the cinema, feeling a bit scary with the atmosphere, kind of "watching alone (I mean there was only me in this hall)? in the Friday's night? No!. Finally after making a strong decision, with the previous strong will to see this gruesome movie, I walked inside, chose anywhere I wanted to sit (obviously somewhere very close to the entrance- the most top-he he, didn't pay for that seat :). It was a kind of relief, when one, and two and three and four...coming, until um, make it 15 people, and all sitting in the hall, chips and snacks..0_0". The hall number 7 didn't make any relationship with the number of people which was gonna make the hall so freaky soon.

The film is "Oh my lord buddha"! I mean it was not what I expected. If you think it is a ghost film, you are wrong. I couldn't say that this is a ghost film. The simple name gives clues of ghost stuff, playing with your imagination about a group of teenagers, a dark wood...appeared a small hut, you can call. Yeh, the setting was like that.

I would say that the film represents the new version of how those disgusting zombies were unearthed..and "digitalized", amplified by the technique of emotional reality TV show and media. I'm thinking about how long the writer and the producer have spent thinking about this plot and scenes. If you experienced "Pulse", Residential Evils, zombies films.. that would be the ones you may be reminded of.

The movie works its duty not so bad in symbolism. I think symbolism is even in the poster that shows the picture of a cabin that looks like a Soma cube wooden puzzle. Moreover, some scenes reflect the idea about respect to the earth, gods and goddess, the anger of the omniscience to the ignorance and the hand of god to change the world. The film is influenced by tribal rituals and the end-of-the earth motif, throwing away some sins to the teenagers (maybe they are too much addicted to the computer that their pulse would be little by little devoured) and letting them be the scapegoat for the rite.

There are two things to be questioned (well, not that serious but if anyone can tell). The first one is about the ghosts in this film. Were they real or digital? (I mean in the story). Or maybe they were awaken and added with a chip and computerized... (?) Actually finally not only ghost came out, a variety of creatures and mythological animals, ha ha make it easy, any of absurdity. All ghosts and spirits appeared one by one, under the control at first of the people working underground, but at the end the scene was terribly in chaos, and of course, the bloody scene (not like the Final Destination of course).

The second is the Japanese scene! What a hell is that? This is what I really don't get it. You better see it yourself and tell me how come what the American weird company did while lauching the reality TV to satisfy its customers had to do anything with the Japanese school girls and ghosts..seemed political, hah.

What the film interested me are these. The panoramic scene of the journey into the wood that led those teenagers to the journey of death game. The journey to the wood was designed like a hell fire pass, a hell valley you never seen the end of it looking down there, with the scnes of cold lake, pine trees sounding strangeness, and this is interesting, the electronic wall you couldn't see (would be better to watch in 3D) and the tunnel (waiting a call for explosion !)

Another interesting scene is the scene of the introduction to the end that revealed the puzzle. The dramatic zoom- in technique that horizons your eyes to see not just one cabin (in the wood) as the film's title but a hundred of cabin that locked in all the grudge and bad spirits (sound like a pandora box *_*) (that was opened finally).

The film is not too bad. Sin and sexuality always plays its role, with the absolutely predictable first death given to the most- porn of the group. But the virginity and smart didn't help in this film. Why? You see it yourself.

And suddenly, the film ended *_*" , Um, try not to find any reason in this film. It ends just like that.

What I get from this film? I think our life has been watched under the bg media and there is no more privacy in here. Well, it seems most of us like it. The best place to escape and unhide your "self" is the place where you can "hide" yourself as well.
